SOLD OUT - Foraging for Basketry and Wild Crafts + Mini Hands-on Project (NE Seattle)

  • My Home - NE Seattle/Pinehurst Pinehurst Neighborhood (address shared with registration) Seattle, WA United States (map)

Let’s have a conversation about some of the incredible plants that grow here in the Pacific Northwest and explore ways to identify, gather, store and use them to create baskets and crafts that bring nature inside. Whether you live in an urban, suburban or rural setting there are forage-able weaving materials to be found. You might have to explore with new eyes and set reminders in your calendar...but there are goodies to be had year round.

I will share about my personal forager’s code of ethics and encourage you to create your own. We all need to care for the plants we harvest, preserve the environments they grow in, respect the owners of the land, and keep ourselves safe.

I will have samples of foraged materials, baskets, and crafts I’ve made and copies of Grounds for Gathering for sale - my favorite book on the topic. At the end of the class, we’ll try our hand at making cordage from several different materials. It’s a simple skill and a great way to get to know new plants/fibers.

This workshop is for beginners - leveraging show & tell & discussion. There are 100’s of plants and crafts to explore but you will walk away with some fun easy ways to get started.

LOCATION: I am hosting the class at my home but we will be outdoors - please dress accordingly. The garden is accessible up one flight of stairs with a sturdy hand rail. Heavy rain may force a cancel/reschedule. If this happens, I will refund the full amount of the class. We have several dogs that will be inside for the evening. Class space is limited. I am requesting minimum age of 12 accompanied by an adult.
